Gary Player was born the son of a poverty-stricken goldminer in South Africa. Through dedication to physical fitness and a keen interest in the sport he became a professional golfer. Along with a multitude of other successes he has, so far, won three British Opens, two American Masters, two American PGA’s and one American Open. He is one of only four men in the history of golf to achieve the Grand Slam by winning all four events. One more victory in the American Open and he will have achieved the distinction of having twice done the Grand Slam.
